This famous brand, is composed of a Dominican filler, an Indonesion Jember binder and a Cameroon wrapper. To make it into a Cohiba cigar, the tobacco must be aged up to four years and only the highest quality leaves are used.
Cohiba Cigars - Rich in History:
In 1496 during Christopher Columbus' second voyage to the new world, he discovered the native Taino Indians of Hispaniola (now the Dominican Repbulic) smoking cured tobacco leaves called Cohiba. Today, Cohiba is one of the most recognized and beloved brands of cigars in the world.
First created in Cuba in 1946, the brand is recognized as one of the finest in available from a country known for its cigars. The tobacco leaves are selected from the finest tobacco fields in Vuelta Abajo region of Pnar del Rio Province. The filler is distinguished by it's third fermentation process in barrels which gives it a smooth flavor.
Originally only produced for Fidel Castro, his close group of advisors and foreign dignitaries, Castro decided to release his favorite tobacco to the public during the 1982 World Cup in Spain. Since then, the Cuban Cohiba brand has been one of the most sought after Cuban cigars.
With the nationalization of the Cuban tobacco industry in 1970, many cigar makers fled Cuba and smuggled seeds to the Dominican Republic, Honduras and other countries with similar climates. After several years of delvelopment, the cigar manufacturer General Cigar Company began distributing the Dominican-made Cohiba cigar based on the original seeds and cigar-making methods from Cuba.
